Tenerife is spearheading an initiative to enhance the export capabilities of its businesses through the utilisation of artificial intelligence. Furthermore, the island will host the inaugural congress on digital internationalisation within the Canary Islands, with this technological tool as a core focus. Companies will be supported with 200,000 euros for export initiatives through the programmes provided by the Chamber of Commerce, backed by European financing.

Compete
Lope Afonso emphasises that “we must improve our outreach and be more efficient in foreign markets.” Through this initiative, the Tourism Minister also highlights, “we are providing business opportunities to companies, fostering economic exchanges that enhance our trade balance. This will help to reduce our reliance on external supplies and invigorate job growth.” A forum will be convened to demonstrate how businesses can leverage artificial intelligence with the clear objective of making our business landscape significantly more competitive.
Cooperate
Santiago Sesé values the “facilities for public-private cooperation, which are pivotal for the island’s economic development and create new avenues for our businesses.” He adds: “We are introducing new editions of several very effective collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing competitiveness in an increasingly globalised and digitised environment.” He concluded, “The Chamber will persist in championing the growth of our small and medium enterprises.”
Boost
Pedro González remarks that “we aspire to be a beneficial resource for those businesses and self-employed individuals who wish to outsource their services or products, enabling them to do so through our supportive programmes.” He summarises: “Tenerife possesses abundant talent that we can export.” Arturo Escuder highlights, “this year we will focus on attending international sector-specific fairs.” Notably, this includes major European tourism events such as ITB in Berlin and the World Travel Market in London; as well as the Hannover Messe for Technology; Oslo Northip for the Maritime Sector; the Annecy International Animation Festival, and the Nordic Games Fair for video games.
Help
Tenerife businesses will benefit from 200,000 euros in aid from the Fede fund through the Chamber’s Internationalisation Programmes in Spain. This funding will enable participation in twelve visits to these international fairs and commercial missions to countries in Latin America, Western Africa, and Europe, all encompassed within the 2025 programme. Additionally, the Xpan Digital programme will assist in enhancing online sales. Interested businesses will receive a travel package covering transportation and accommodation, along with entrance costs to the fair, the working agenda, and translation expenses. After undertaking these activities, they may claim a reimbursement of 85% of their expenses, subject to the programme’s limits.
Guide
The revised Guide for Export and Import from the Canary Islands is aimed at guiding island businesses through the necessary procedures for selling abroad or procuring goods from outside the islands. This manual has been developed with the cooperation of various administrations. The 28-page document is divided into four sections: the first is general, the second involves export, the third focuses on importation, and the fourth addresses new taxes or obligations that will be implemented in 2025.
