Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 27th January (Europa Press) –
The Canarian Coalition of Tenerife will host an island convention this Saturday, where pivotal topics regarding the future of the island, such as demographic challenges, health care, and transport, will be discussed from both municipal and insular perspectives.
Taking place at the Hotel School of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the convention will see the participation of representatives from all local committees across the island, as well as various roles within municipalities, councils, and the Government of the Canary Islands. This event is one of the preparatory meetings ahead of the national and insular congresses scheduled for April and May, respectively.
Francisco Linares, Secretary General of the Canarian Coalition of Tenerife, stated that the aim of this initiative “is to amplify the voices of local governance and highlight its crucial role in enhancing citizens’ daily lives, as well as in addressing the significant challenges that this region faces.”
He described the island convention as “an opportunity not only to evaluate the work currently undertaken at the local and insular levels but also as a platform to strategise and share policies aimed at tackling pertinent issues such as mobility, health care, and the demographic challenge that affect the daily lives of Tenerife residents.”
This Saturday’s meeting also serves as the second engagement for the Canarian Coalition with its grassroots members ahead of the VIII National Congress, set to take place on the 5th and 6th of April in Gran Canaria, fulfilling a commitment to enhance debate and participation among its members.
Saturday will mark the second of these working sessions—the first took place in Gran Canaria two weeks ago—across all islands, featuring contributions from the National Secretary, Fernando Clavijo.
The nationalists aspire to “progress in both a country project and a party initiative that will be discussed at the VIII Congress, which reflects the collective efforts of those who make it possible for the Canarian Coalition to be the sole nationalist force with a presence across all eight islands,” commented Linares.
David Toledo, the National Secretary of Organisation, emphasised that a concurrent schedule of work is being maintained with the proposals to be discussed at the upcoming National Congress. These proposals will focus on promoting the sustainability of the Canary Islands, the Canarian national identity, and the role of the Canary Islands within the State and across Europe, alongside the statutes of the nationalist organisation.
Toledo reminded that the amendment period has commenced for the documents available on the Canarian Coalition’s website (https://coalicioncanaria.org/congresos/viii-Congresso-documen …).
