Canarian Coalition of Tenerife is set to host an Insular Convention this Saturday, February 1. During this event, significant topics concerning the future of the island will be discussed from both a municipal and insular viewpoint, including the Demographic Challenge, Health, and Mobility. The gathering will take place at the Santa Cruz School Hotel, with participation from representatives of all local committees across the island, as well as individuals holding various positions within municipalities, councils, and government. This meeting is one of the preparatory conclaves leading up to the National and Insular Congresses scheduled for April and May, respectively.
Secretary General
According to Francisco Linares, the Secretary General of the Canarian Coalition of Tenerife, the aim of this initiative is “to amplify the local and insular governance and highlight its importance, not only in improving the daily lives of citizens but also in addressing the significant challenges facing this region.” This island convention “provides an opportunity to evaluate our work at both the local and insular levels, as well as a platform to formulate and share policies that tackle the pressing issues that concern Tenerife, such as mobility, health, and the demographic challenge,” the CC Secretary for Tenerife explained.
Second Encounter
The meeting this Saturday will also mark the second gathering of the Canarian Coalition with the party bases in preparation for the VIII National Congress, which will occur on 5th and 6th April in Gran Canaria. This aligns with the nationalists’ commitment to fostering debate and participation among their ranks. This will be the second of several working sessions (the first was held in Gran Canaria a fortnight ago) taking place across the islands, featuring contributions from National Secretary, Fernando Clavijo. The nationalists aim to “progress towards a national project and a party initiative that will be deliberated at the VIII Congress, representing those who tirelessly work to ensure that the Canarian Coalition remains the sole nationalist force with a presence across all eight islands.”
Organisation
The National Secretary of Organisation, David Toledo, highlights that this Saturday marks the continuation of a parallel work schedule that began with presentations to be discussed in the forthcoming National Congress. These will cover policies aimed at Promoting Sustainability from the Canary Islands, enhancing Canarian national identity, and defining the position of the Canary Islands within both the State and Europe, alongside the statutes of the nationalist organisation. Toledo reminded participants that the period for amendments to the texts, which are available on the Canarian Coalition website (https://coalicancanaria.org/congresos/viii-Congresso-documentos/), has already commenced.
