This time, any resemblance to reality is indeed no coincidence. Theatre, true theatre, as the timeless verses of La Lupe suggest. A group of young African males is diligently rehearsing these days much like any other amateur troupe in Tenerife ahead of their debut. Here, we witness the art of performance in its most authentic form, to the extent that what they showcase is their own narrative. Their piece is rooted in events as genuine as the plight of migration, poignantly illustrating the harrowing and perilous sea crossing through the Canary Islands. The twelve individuals, aged between 18 and 27, primarily from Senegal but also hailing from Gambia and Guinea-Bissau, arrived in this land just like countless other migrants aboard a cayuco.
