Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 27 Jan (Europa Press) –

A 60-year-old individual has lost his life on Monday after being pulled out to sea, alongside two others, in the vicinity of the Natural Pool of Isla Cangrejo, located on the coast of Santiago del Teide.

The incident occurred just before midday when the Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre (Cecoes) 112 of the Canary Islands Government received a notification reporting that three individuals were in distress in the water after being swept away by a wave.

Rescue teams from the GES Helicopter located one of the swimmers face down in the water and proceeded to rescue and transport him to a nearby football field, while the other two managed to exit the water on their own.

One of the rescued individuals suffered an anxiety attack, thus no transfer to a medical facility was necessary, while the other, a 50-year-old woman, was evacuated due to sustaining multiple injuries.

Upon arrival at the football field, SUC personnel discovered that the man rescued by the helicopter remained in cardiorespiratory arrest despite the efforts of the rescue teams and could only pronounce him deceased.

Police services activated by the Coordinating Centre assisted alongside other emergency resources and prepared the necessary reports, while maritime rescue was involved in the response operations conducted in the area.
