Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 24 January (Europa Press) –
Maritime rescue teams have discovered a Cayuco with 93 migrants on Thursday afternoon, including a baby, in waters close to El Hierro Island, as reported by the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre of 112 in the Canary Islands and the Red Cross.
The vessel was identified by the Sasemar 102 aircraft when it was nearly 80 kilometres (48 nautical miles) from El Hierro, according to maritime rescue services, which also dispatched the Salvamar Adhara to the location.
Subsequently, Salvamar rescued the migrants and transported them to the La Restinga dock, where they were attended to by local health services, including staff from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC), Primary Care, and the Red Cross. All 93 individuals rescued were reported to be in good health.
