The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, confirmed this Wednesday that the finalisation of the Padre Anchieta pedestrian ring in the municipality of La Laguna will be accomplished throughout February, with the installation of the last two primary modules. This will be followed by the civil works planned in the vicinity, which are anticipated to be completed between April and May.

During a press conference regarding governmental council agreements, the leader of the island corporation further emphasised that these initiatives will align with the planned refurbishment of the La Laguna Interchange, for which an investment of 8 million euros has been approved. This project will include two direct access ramps coming from the station and the Padre Anchieta pedestrian ring itself.

“This is a pivotal step for an infrastructure that is already iconic for the city of La Laguna and for Tenerife, serving a strategic purpose in alleviating congestion at a roundabout frequented by 50,000 vehicles daily. It will benefit 20,000 pedestrians each day and will significantly enhance the flow of vehicle traffic on the TF-5,” Dávila stated in a subsequent press release.

FEATURES OF THE PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY

The construction work on the Padre Anchieta pedestrian ring comprises 11 metal modules, weighing 40 tons each (a total of 1,500 tons), as well as 3 connecting ramps (north, centre, and south), representing an investment of 8.8 million euros.

The project, executed by the company Obras Huarte Lain SA, involves assembling 4 modules that form the north ramp, which is 125 metres long and has a free width of 1.85 metres. This ramp is supported by 7 square-section metal piles, which have already been installed.

This infrastructure boasts a design that won the National Innovation and Design Awards in 2019, conferred by Spain’s Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities.
