The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, stated this Wednesday that “agreements are still being refined” with the Government of the Canary Islands concerning the final draft of the Master Plan for the Use and Management of Teide National Park (PRUG). The collaborative amendments being made will, once integrated into the document, be presented to the Board of Trustees of the National Park for subsequent approval.
“The new Cabildo administration had differences regarding the earlier PRUG document… The focus now is on smoothing over any rough areas or disagreements present in that document, which was produced by the previous government, encompassing both the regional government and the Cabildo,” the island’s president remarked during a press conference based on governmental agreements.
Moreover, Dávila affirmed that “this significant work” has been in progress gradually over recent months, and once there is a unified document, it will be submitted to the Board of Trustees of Teide National Park, allowing the Government of the Canary Islands to approve it thereafter.
He cited the negotiations involving aspects included in the earlier document, such as the clause that “absolutely banned the filming of commercial adverts and movies in the Park unless aimed at promotion for scientific purposes”: “We, along with the current Government of the Canary Islands, did not concur with that. Therefore, we need to rephrase it and determine to what extent this activity can be conducted.”
“Numerous points have been addressed to ensure a cohesive text that absolutely does not jeopardise the conservation and protection of the Park,” Dávila concluded, adding that while he has not set any deadlines, he has confirmed that we are already “in the final phase.”
