SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Jan. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish Society of Industrial and Galenic Pharmacy (SEFIG) is hosting its seventeenth congress in Santa Cruz de Tenerife from this Wednesday to Friday, under the theme ‘Advancing the Precision of Medicines’. This event will gather researchers from the island alongside esteemed professionals from both national and international backgrounds in this field.
Topics to be discussed at the Congress include recent developments in the manufacturing and quality assurance of medicines, their personalised design, and their advancement through innovative technologies such as 3D printing.
According to the president of the organising committee, José B. Fariña Espinosa, Professor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of La Laguna, this event is “crucial” for the industry.
“It was vital for the organising committee to add an international dimension to the Congress by inviting top-tier researchers to discuss emerging trends in drug development and to position the island and the archipelago as a reference point,” he stated in a release.
The agenda will commence on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. with the launch of the TecPharInnova Workshop, a platform created to showcase a selection of projects related to the industry. The workshop will be divided into three segments: the first focusing on innovation in education, the second on research and transfer, and the last segment addressing the application of cutting-edge tools, including the integration of artificial intelligence in the creation of new medications.
At 4:00 p.m., the official inauguration of the congress will occur, featuring remarks from the rector of the University of La Laguna, Francisco García; the first vice president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Ana Oramas; the president of the General Council of Pharmacists, Jesús Aguilar; the president of SEFIG, Ana Santoveña; and the organising committee chair, José B. Fariña.
The inaugural lecture will be delivered by Carmen Álvarez Lorenzo, director of the Materials Institute at the University of Santiago de Compostela, entitled ‘Bioinspired medicines’.
The first plenary session will be presented by Ryan Donnelly, Chair of the UK’s Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences (APS), scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. His talk is titled ‘Micro- and nano-engineered systems for enhanced transdermal and intradermal drug delivery’.
