David Esteban, the proprietor of the La Montería tavern in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, had set one of the tables with the same expectations as any other booking. However, at around 2:00 p.m. last Friday, a group of young men clad in the uniforms of the midshipmen from the Juan Sebastián de Elcano, the training vessel of the Spanish navy, unexpectedly arrived. They informed him that they were the ones who had made a reservation for eight. “When I noticed the sailors, I jokingly remarked that I would check if Princess Leonor was joining us. And indeed, she appeared right away. I was in disbelief,” he recalls.
