The Popular Romería in Honour of San Antonio Abad 2025 attracted hundreds of locals and tourists today in Arona, where attendees were able to merge the celebration of a Holy Mass in a hermitage celebrating its 400th anniversary with a joyous demonstration of tradition in the form of a pilgrimage.
Since 1625, the figure of San Antonio Abad has been revered in the heart of what is now known as Arona Casco. This is why these festivities hold such significance and affection from the community, honouring customs and showcasing the history that has shaped the municipality over the years.
Following the departure of the image of San Antonio Abad from the temple, a pilgrimage commenced, characterised by music, culinary delights, and the warmth of camaraderie. However, the celebration was not limited to these elements. A deeply ingrained tradition of blessing animals also took place, welcoming both large livestock and cherished pets.
The floats, parties, and groups transformed the streets of Arona Casco, classified as a Cultural Asset, into a vibrant tapestry of colour until late afternoon. To culminate the festivities, the Wamampy and Los Ideales orchestras provided the perfect conclusion to a lively Sunday.
