The training vessel ‘Juan Sebastián Elcano’, with Princess Leonor serving as one of its midshipmen, arrived this Friday at approximately 9:00 a.m. at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where it will remain until Monday before departing for Gran Canaria en route to America. The ship will make stops at various locations including Salvador de Bahía (Brazil), Montevideo (Uruguay), Punta Arenas and Valparaíso (Chile), El Callao (Peru), Panama City (Panama), Cartagena de Indias and Santa Marta (Colombia), Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), and New York (USA), before returning to Spain.
Upon its arrival, the vessel was welcomed with cannon fire from members of the ‘La Gesta Historical Cultural Association of July 25, 1797’, accompanied by cheers of “Long live Spain, Long live the King, Long live Tenerife” and the curiosity of numerous citizens who gathered at the Los Llanos dock of the capital’s port to capture the moment of ‘Elcano’s’ arrival.
Throughout this journey, which will extend until July 21, the ship has been assigned two primary missions, including comprehensive training for the midshipmen encompassing seamanship, military, social, and human elements, as part of their third year in a five-year programme at the Naval Military School.
