International Burglary Ring Busted in Tenerife

Officers from the National Police have conducted an operation to dismantle an international criminal organisation specialising in burglary. The operation resulted in the apprehension of three members, along with the identification of two additional individuals while they were active on the island of Tenerife.

Since May of the previous year, the agents launched an investigation that revealed a clear pattern in the residential break-ins. The intruders employed techniques such as forced entry or breaking windows to gain access to properties, primarily aiming to steal money and jewellery.

Initial inquiries allowed the agents to recognise one of the suspects as the supposed perpetrator of multiple burglaries.

This person was a member of a travelling criminal gang, whose operatives had previously been detected or apprehended in other countries including Germany and Ukraine, as well as various Spanish provinces like Seville, Malaga, and Barcelona.

The gang operated under stringent security measures to evade detection by law enforcement.

They utilised several vehicles, frequently changing their modes of transport and lodging, alongside using counterfeit documents and multiple mobile phones, as reported by the National Police.

Despite the challenges, investigators successfully compiled sufficient evidence to initiate judicial proceedings against the gang members.

During the police operation, agents located the suspects in the centre of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, right as they were preparing for another burglary.

Two of the arrested individuals were undertaking surveillance from a vehicle, while another was readying to enter a residence. Upon being discovered, they attempted to evade capture by ramming their vehicle into the officers.

As a result of these actions, they are also facing charges for assaulting law enforcement officials.

Upon their arrest, agents confiscated gloves, tools, mobile phones, and a vehicle that had been rented from a private individual.

Among those apprehended is the gang leader, who is subject to an extradition order to serve a sentence in Germany for his involvement in multiple burglaries.

The detainees have been presented before the judicial authority for the alleged offences of burglary, membership in a criminal organisation due to their association with an organised gang dedicated to repeated thefts using a defined modus operandi, as well as the assault on law enforcement personnel.
