The Ayuntamiento de Guia de Isora has unveiled a new temporary facility for the accommodation of abandoned animals, established to cater for urgent collection cases until the designated collection and reception service, employing four staff members, can take charge. The facility includes designated areas for dogs and two for cats.

This initiative serves as a supplementary measure to the current agreement for animal collection and reception, aligning with the stipulations of the Animal Welfare Law that came into effect in 2023.

The project, with an estimated budget of 38,000 euros, was executed by Construcciones y Reformas Torres y Correa, a local enterprise. The Environment councillor, Domingo Perdomo, emphasised the significance of this venture, stating: “This marks another step forward in safeguarding animals within our community. We aim to ensure that no dog or cat is left without care, even in unexpected circumstances. This facility is not a kennel, but a temporary haven for emergencies.”

The setup operates under specific guidelines. Perdomo explained, “For instance, if a dog is rescued by the local police during the night and the retrieval service is delayed, we now have a secure location where it can be sheltered for a few hours.”
