The Guía de Isora City Council has officially opened a new temporary facility for the accommodation of abandoned animals. This centre is located next to the offices of the Municipal Services park, situated in the urban core; it is an initiative developed collaboratively by the Departments of Animal Welfare and the Environment.
This space, funded with an estimated budget of 38,000 euros, was executed by Construcciones y Reformas Torres y Correa, a local company. It is designed for urgent cases that necessitate prompt collection, remaining in operation until the collection and shelter service assumes responsibility. The facility includes four rooms for dogs and two for cats, acting as a supplementary solution to the existing collection and shelter services. This adaptation complies with the requirements set forth by the Animal Welfare Law, which has been in effect since 2023.
The setup operates under specific guidelines. Perdomo clarifies that, “for instance, if Local Police capture a dog during the night and the collection service is delayed, we now have a secure place to accommodate it for a few hours.”
