The mayor of Arona, Fatima Lemes (PP), signed a decree on Wednesday dismissing four councillors from Más por Arona (Dácil León, Pura Martín, Juan Sebastián Roque and Luis García) due to a loss of confidence, as confirmed by sources from the Popular Party to DIARIO DE AVISOS.
A new political landscape now emerges in the municipality with the highest population in the South, potentially involving the integration of the two Vox councillors (Naim Valerio Yánez and Melania Desiré) into governmental responsibilities.
PP, CC, and Vox would collectively hold 12 councillors out of the 25 that constitute the corporation, falling short of the absolute majority needed, which is 13. This situation would compel them to “put in considerable effort” for the remainder of the term, according to consulted sources. The sole councillor from Nueva Canarias would be excluded from the agreement.
Lemes has indicated that announcements regarding the appointment of the new leaders will be communicated in the near future, along with a programme of actions for each sector, aimed at being implemented during the remaining term.
