The latest archaeological dig near the Church of San Francisco, aimed at locating remnants of the former convent of San Lorenzo de La Orotava, has resulted in the finding of skeletal remains belonging to eight individuals in various graves. These burials are linked to interments that occurred at this sacred site prior to its destruction by fire in 1801. The fieldwork, undertaken by the General Directorate of Culture and Heritage of the Canary Islands Government in conjunction with the La Orotava City Council, has allowed for the documentation of burials alongside previously unknown everyday items that provide fresh insights into the operations and development of the original monastic establishment in the Villa de La Orotava.
