SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Jan. 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife, via Metrotenerife, has announced an international competition for a project aimed at establishing a train service in the northern part of the island, employing an alternative railway system instead of a conventional one.
This initiative specifically seeks to investigate existing “solutions” within the sector and pinpoint proposals that harmoniously blend into the Tenerife landscape, while simultaneously fostering “sustainable and efficient” mobility, as stated by Metrotenerife.
The proposed route is required to follow the corridor of the existing TF-5 motorway without impacting its current and future capacity. It should facilitate transfers with tram and southern train services, or uphold a significant transport capacity and coherence with the island’s territorial and socio-economic framework, particularly in the northern area.
ANONYMOUS COMPETITION WITH A LIMIT OF 10 ENTRIES
The deadline for application submissions is set for January 31, with the entire process anticipated to take approximately 20 months from the official announcement on January 3, which has already been disseminated through standard communication and information channels for this type of contest.
In accordance with the guidelines, the competition is conducted anonymously and is restricted to a maximum of 10 applications. Furthermore, there is a total monetary prize of 450,000 euros, which will be allocated in various compensations to the participants.
Additionally, there will be several awards based on the jury’s assessment that will oversee the process and final disbursements for the foundational development of the ultimately chosen solution.
The appointed jury will be responsible for selecting the most outstanding proposals submitted based on criteria such as operational, financial, and construction considerations, and will subsequently determine the winners.
Furthermore, the competition consists of a concluding phase in which the writing of the feasibility study for the alternative railway system that ranks the highest will be rewarded.
