Gran Canaria leads with 15.2 million (+9%), followed by Tenerife Sur, with 13.7 million, an increase of 11.4%.

The airports of the Canary Islands concluded 2024 with a total passenger count of 52,813,541, marking a 9% increase from last year, alongside 471,248 operations, which is up 7.3% from 2023.
Out of the total traveller numbers for 2024, 52,488,541 were passengers on commercial flights, as reported by the airport management authority this Monday.
Among these, 21,506,627 were of national origin or destination, representing an 8.7% rise from 2023, while 30,981,914 were international, surpassing the previous year’s figures by 9.7%.
Throughout 2024, a total of 33,284 tonnes of goods were transported, reflecting an 8.4% increase compared to the previous year.
In terms of individual airports, Gran Canaria recorded the highest passenger traffic with 15,211,338, representing a 9% increase compared to the prior year. Tenerife South Airport followed closely with 13,740,411 passengers, indicating an 11.4% rise.
César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport reported 8,714,285 passengers (+6.1%); Tenerife North-City of La Laguna had 6,762,702 (+10.5%); Fuerteventura saw 6,445,965 (+7.1%); La Palma had 1,496,023 (+9.3%); El Hierro registered 322,110 (+6.9%), and La Gomera accounted for 120,707 passengers (+6.5%).
In December alone, the airports in the Canary Islands recorded 4,777,088 passengers, an increase of 7.1% compared to the previous December.
Of the total passengers on commercial flights (4,749,377), 1,805,255 were national operations, a 10% rise, whilst 2,944,122 were international, signifying a 5.6% increase from December 2023.
The airports with the highest passenger activities were Gran Canaria with 1,448,449 (+7.2%), Tenerife Sur with 1,289,180 (+5.8%), and César Manrique-Lanzarote with 733,795 (+4.4%).
Next were Tenerife North Airport-City of La Laguna with 574,087 (+13.2%); Fuerteventura with 563,814 (+8.7%); La Palma with 132,528 (+3.3%); El Hierro with 25,656 (+6.9%); and La Gomera with 9,579 (+9.9%).
In terms of aircraft movements, a total of 43,342 were recorded, representing an 8.2% increase from December 2023.
The total amount of merchandise transported was 3,171 tonnes, which is a 12.4% rise compared to the same month last year.
ALMOST 370 MILLION ACROSS THE NETWORK
The airports operated by the Aena Group, consisting of 46 airports and two heliports in Spain as well as London-Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil, concluded the year 2024 with 369,444,029 passengers, an 8.5% increase compared to 2023. They also managed 3,203,747 aircraft movements, up 7.1% from the previous year, and transported 1,421,640 tonnes of goods, which is an 18.1% increase from last year.
In December 2024, the Aena Group’s airports accommodated 26,925,911 passengers (7.2% higher than in 2023), recorded 239,377 aircraft movements (+5.7%), and transported 124,571 tonnes of merchandise, representing an 11.5% increase from 2023.
Aena is currently assessing and, in some instances, has begun implementing essential investments that will be included in Aena’s proposal for the Airport Regulation Document DORA 2027-2031, aimed at ensuring that infrastructure remains appropriately scaled to meet future demand.
Sustainable growth of airports in economic and environmental terms plays a vital role in generating wealth and employment in the areas they service, thus necessitating a technically rigorous approach to identifying needs.
The planned investments will be discussed within Aena’s proposals during the mandatory consultation process with airlines, a procedure outlined by Law 18 of 2014, involving the National Markets and Competition Commission and the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, among others.
Once presented to users and airlines, and following engagement with Airport Coordination Committees comprising representatives from regional and local governments as well as economic and social sectors, these details will be incorporated into Aena’s investment strategy.
