Swift Air Force Rescue: A Life-Saving Evacuation from a Distant Cruise Ship

This Sunday morning, the Air Force extracted ailing passenger from the cruise ship Aidamar when it was situated over 200 nautical miles – more than 370 kilometres – from the shores of Tenerife.

Salvamento Marítimo has reported that when the vessel requested a medical evacuation, controllers at their centre in Tenerife dispatched a helicopter from the Air Rescue Service (SAR) along with a support aircraft.

Subsequently, once the helicopter arrived at the location, its crew successfully retrieved the ill female passenger and transported her to Tenerife South Airport, where a medical ambulance awaited to take her to a hospital on the island.
