The Governing Board of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has awarded a contract to PICCONIA GEST, SL for the execution of a project aimed at enhancing the solarium spaces on Las Teresitas beach. This will involve the installation of floating platforms at the sea assistance points for individuals with special needs and creating connectivity, via these floating platforms, for people with varying abilities from the main promenade to the new terrace kiosks. The project covers accesses 1, 5, 7, and 10, with a budget of 98,440 euros and a completion timeframe of three months.
José Manuel Bermúdez, the mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, underscores the significance of this initiative in ensuring equitable access to one of the municipality’s most iconic bathing locations. He remarks, “Through these measures, we continue to progress in our mission of transforming Santa Cruz into an inclusive, accessible city tailored to the needs of all.”
In addition, Carlos Tarife, the Councillor for Strategic Planning, Environmental Sustainability, and Public Services, elucidates that “we have pinpointed specific needs at accesses 1, 5, 7, and 10, and this contract will allow us to address them effectively. Not only will we guarantee appropriate access to the new kiosks-terraces, but we will also install floating solariums and accessible changing facilities, greatly enhancing the experience for users with reduced mobility.”
Highlighted Improvements
At accesses 1 and 10 of the beach, the external platform area will be expanded with Finnish pine wood boards. For access 1, an additional 26 m² will be added, bringing the total to 36.36 m², whereas access 10 will see an extension of the platform by 48.05 m². These enhancements will allow the installation of accessible changing rooms and railings, facilitating safe access to the toilets for the public.
At access 5, a floating walkway will be constructed to connect the existing walkway with the kiosks positioned on the sand, ensuring an accessible path for individuals with reduced mobility or functional diversity.
Lastly, at access 7, two floating platforms measuring 10 x 10 metres will be established for solariums, featuring tents constructed with similar characteristics to those already present in other beach areas.
The City Council reaffirms that this investment is part of an ongoing commitment to uphold and enhance the safety and accessibility of Las Teresitas beach.
