The Insular Craft Company has initiated a competition that significantly supports the fashion sector in the Canary Islands. The organisation, which operates under the Cabildo of Tenerife, announces the opening of the application period for the 14th edition of the International Competition for Young Designers Tenerife Fashion 2025, which includes the awarding of three monetary prizes as well as the promotion of new talent in textile design.
According to the Minister of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina, this competition, which continues to possess an international character, aims “to assist emerging designers who wish to embark on their professional journey in the realm of fashion creation, thereby helping to enhance the textile industry as a source of employment and entrepreneurship for youth.”
Following the success of designer David Moss, who won last year during an event conducted on June 6 at the Tenerife Fairgrounds, the Cabildo is now preparing for the next edition. Once the list of finalist collections has been established, the envelopes will be opened to reveal the identities of the participants and to confirm compliance with the competition requirements. The appointed jury will then select seven finalists, of whom two must reside in Tenerife.
Scheduled for June
The new designers selected for the final will exhibit their respective collections at a fashion show, once more hosted at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Fairgrounds, during June 2024, where the winners will be announced.
For the 14th edition of the Tenerife Fashion 2025 International Young Designers Contest, participants may enter either as individuals or as a group under a shared brand, regardless of nationality or country of residence, provided they are aged 18 to 40 by December 31, 2025, as outlined in the competition guidelines already published.
Individuals wishing to enter this edition must submit their applications by March 14, either in person or via certified mail (Empresa Insular de Artesanía SA, calle Tomas Zerolo 27, La Orotava 38300).
The seven finalists will receive financial support of up to 1,500 euros to aid in covering the costs associated with creating the ten models in their proposal (including garments, fabrics, and accessories).
Additionally, designers who reside outside the area will receive assistance to cover travel costs (including transportation of the collection) and accommodation on the Island, enabling them to participate in the presentation of the finalist collections and the awards ceremony.
During the final gala, the jury will select two winners, who will be awarded cash prizes of 5,000 euros and 3,000 euros, respectively, based on their ranking, and an additional prize of 2,000 euros will also be awarded for the most marketable collection, which may align with the first or second prize.
Previous Edition
The first prize in the previous edition was awarded to designer David Pérez from Guadalajara (David Moos). Diego Barroso (Filst) from La Gomera secured the second prize, while Alejandro Niño from Colombia received the award for the most marketable collection. The grand finale of Young Designers 2024 attracted a large audience to an event filled with striking visual effects, culminating in a presentation by designer José Luis Díaz Megias, the creative force behind It-Spain.
