SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Jan. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Officers from the Civil Guard’s Nature Protection Service (Seprona) in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Command have discovered a shipment of 350 kilograms of ‘Hass’ avocados, prepared for sale and distribution in a perishable goods establishment that lacked appropriate traceability labels.
The Civil Guard outlines in a statement that these inspections provide information regarding the food’s origin, its legitimate provenance, and its suitability for consumption, thereby mitigating any potential health risks for consumers.
Given these circumstances, the officers sealed and immobilised the 350 kilograms of avocados, as they lacked sanitary oversight. The individual responsible was unable to prove that the avocados were fit for consumption and was also unaware of the phytosanitary products used during cultivation and whether safety timeframes for marketing had been adhered to.
In accordance with regulations, those implicated could face fines of up to 4,000 euros for minor violations, up to 150,000 euros for serious infractions, and as much as three million euros for very serious offences.
