The La Laguna City Council has temporarily closed the swimming zones in Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo. This decision is a response to the declaration by the Government of the Canary Islands regarding the pre-alert for coastal events, aimed at ensuring the safety of users.
It is important to note that the Government of the Canary Islands, via the General Directorate of Emergencies, issued the aforementioned pre-alert on Wednesday. This alert took effect later that same day, at 8:00 p.m., based on the information provided by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
Regions impacted by high waves
- La Palma, El Hierro, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote: north and west coast.
- La Gomera: west coast (northwest and southwest).
- Tenerife and Gran Canaria: northern coast.
Weather Outlook and Hazards
Forecasts indicate that sea conditions could reach and exceed heights of 4 metres. An east wind with a force of 3 to 5 is expected, with speeds ranging from 12 to 38 kilometres per hour. Additionally, forecasts project rough seas with localized areas of offshore swell and a northwestern swell measuring between 2 and 3.5 metres. These conditions pose risks for swimmers and maritime users.
