The Cabildo of Tenerife has provided a direct grant of approximately 750,000 euros to La Laguna for the execution of the Economic and Sustainable Promotion initiative, which will train and employ 66 unemployed individuals in the municipality for a duration of 16 months. This funding will encompass both the training and salary expenses of the participants.
Priority will be given to young individuals under the age of 30 and those facing long-term unemployment. Furthermore, women are required to constitute at least 50% of the employed workforce.
Consequently, the individuals involved will receive training and will have the opportunity to secure a contract within their municipality, contributing to projects of local and social relevance. The roles will be designed to accommodate both skilled and unskilled workers, as well as positions for coordination and support.
The Minister for Employment, Education and Youth, Efraín Medina, highlights that this initiative is more than just another employment scheme; he describes it as “a holistic commitment to the future for unemployed individuals who will engage in projects associated with local sustainable development, where they will receive training and acquire work experience to enhance their future job prospects,” he stated.
Additionally, participants will benefit from tailored job counselling, and efforts will be made to identify opportunities to assist them in securing employment in the island’s job market once the projects are concluded.
On his part, the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, appreciates both the number of individuals who will gain from this initiative and its aim to integrate young and long-term unemployed individuals into the labour market. “It is essential to provide genuine job prospects to citizens, fortify the economic framework solidly through proper training, and continue advancing towards a more equitable and inclusive society,” he remarked yesterday.
