The department of Highways of the Tenerife Council has outlined its plans for 2025, which include improvement works across more than 600 kilometres of roads on the island, out of a total of 1,558 kilometres across its 128 connecting routes. The focus will be on rehabilitating signage with an investment of one million euros, as well as enhancing visibility on roads that need intervention due to deterioration caused by usage and time. These actions are part of a more extensive initiative aimed at road enhancements throughout Tenerife, which recently saw a 30 million euro investment directed towards the rehabilitation of the Southern Highway (TF-1) in the areas of Arico, Fasnia, and Güímar.
Works
This year’s activities will include night-time operations on the following roads: TF-111 (Valle Jiménez and Valle Tabares), TF-180 (Santa Cruz-La Laguna), TF-165 (Tacoronte), TF-156 (access to El Boquerón), TF-163 (Valle de Guerra and El Pris), TF-154 (Tegueste), TF-176 (Santa Cruz-El Rosario), TF-174 (La Matanza-La Victoria) and TF-213 (La Victoria). The works are slated to occur between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM to reduce disruption to traffic.
Specifically, the rehabilitation project will be directed at updating crucial signs such as yield signs, lane markings, direction arrows, and crossing markings, which currently exhibit significant wear. These signs are vital for guiding and alerting drivers, particularly at night, when diminished visibility can heighten the risk of accidents.

36 Initiatives
Additionally, Carreteras is inviting tenders for 36 projects aimed at enhancing the safety and rehabilitation of Tenerife’s roadways, with a budget of 700,000 euros. The bidding process for these works closes on the 16th. In addition to signage, these projects will encompass resurfacing of the roadways, improvements to drainage systems, as well as the installation of beacons and road safety barriers. Similarly, stabilisation works on slopes and embankments will be executed on several roads of island-wide significance.
The area councillor, Dámaso Arteaga, remarked that “with this package of over 30 projects, we will be able to undertake throughout 2025 the improvement measures needed for numerous road segments across Tenerife.” He emphasised that “we are discussing the resurfacing and rehabilitation of pavements in many sections that are presently in poor condition, as well as addressing some of the slopes with the highest risk to public safety.”
