The Department of Social Welfare and Quality of Life at La Laguna City Council is set to host a new edition of the municipality’s Volunteer Market this weekend. The Plaza del Cristo will serve as the venue for this occasion, which had to be deferred to mid-December 2024 due to a rainfall warning issued by the relevant authorities.
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, emphasised that “this event intends to highlight and appreciate the contributions of third sector organisations, particularly those operating within the municipality, and to bring their efforts closer to the residents of La Laguna and Tenerife.” He further added that “this initiative will provide attendees with a broad agenda of training and leisure activities, in addition to various promotional stalls.”
Additionally, the councillor in charge of the Area, María Cruz, revealed that all planned activities will be free of charge and emphasised that “this Market will again feature volunteer organisations focused on social, environmental, care, and support for the most disadvantaged individuals as well as those advocating for animal welfare, among other examples.”
This Saturday, commencing at 11:30 a.m., the official opening of this initiative will occur. From that time, a diverse cultural programme will be showcased, including a biodance workshop led by Claudia Oliva at 1:00 p.m.; a Latin music session performed by Dany García at 2:30 p.m.; a tribute to The Chanberries by the group Punto ya parte at 4:00 p.m.; and a concert by the rock band Los Jediondos starting at 5:30 p.m. The stalls of the organisations will remain operational from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
On Sunday, January 12, the Market will be accessible from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., featuring a performance by Michel Acosta at 1:00 p.m., a jazz session by the LC Project at 2:30 p.m., a DJ set by José Reyes at 3:30 p.m., and a new musical tribute to conclude the event, this time honouring Radio Futura at 5:00 p.m.
