As a precursor to the significant day marked by the arrival of Their Majesties from the East, La Orotava immerses itself in various preparations and continues with the activities of its Christmas programme to invigorate and create a festive atmosphere for the town. One of the most eagerly awaited and delightful events is scheduled for Saturday, 4th January, commencing at 5:00 p.m., on Emilio Luque Avenue, directly in front of the La Milagrosa school.
This thirteenth edition will feature a magnificent sweet composed of 500 pieces of roscones which, when aligned, span nearly 500 metres in length. The dough will once again be crafted in the premises of the Jovita Bakery, whilst the 1,000 kilos of pastry cream required for the filling will be supplied by the Manobuena confectionery. To create this traditional festive delight, approximately 300 kilos of flour and over 50 kilos each of orange and assorted candied fruits will be employed; along with margarine, butter, sugar, vanilla, and lemon. Additionally, about 500 litres of hot chocolate will be available for distribution.
The sweets and chocolate will be distributed throughout the afternoon, while supplies last, in exchange for a donation, as the event is of a charitable nature and proceeds will be directed to the social initiatives of the Red Cross and Cáritas to assist the most vulnerable families in the municipality. It is estimated that around 4,000 portions will be shared out.
From 6:30 p.m. onwards, attendees can also enjoy a performance by the Escuela de Calor group featuring their Christmas show.
This event, which has become a hallmark of Christmas in Northern Tenerife, is organised by the Commerce department of the La Orotava Town Council to enhance commercial activity within the municipality.
The Town Council extends special thanks to the team of Red Cross volunteers who will assist with the coordination of this occasion, and acknowledges the contributions of the collaborating companies, Manobuena and Panadería Jovita.
