Tenerife Tram to Run Nonstop on New Year’s Eve and Day Celebrations

Metrotenerife will maintain full operation of Line 1 of the Tenerife tram on the night of Tuesday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve) through to Wednesday, January 1 (New Year’s Day), with service intervals of 15 and 20 minutes.

As per the company, starting at 11:00 p.m., trams will conclude their service in Santa Cruz at the Teatro Guimerá stop. This decision aims to prevent circulation in the vicinity of Plaza España and Iglesia de la Concepción, where numerous celebratory events typically take place on New Year’s Eve.

On New Year’s Eve, Tuesday the 31st, Line 1 will run with a frequency of 6 minutes during peak demand hours, which are from 07:00 to 15:00.

Subsequently, the intervals will shift to 7.5 minutes and then to 10 minutes until 9:00 p.m. Following this, trams will operate every 15 to 20 minutes as the night progresses into New Year’s Day.

Furthermore, the night service on Line 1 will have its route reduced to Teatro Guimerá to avoid disruption to the celebrations at Plaza de España and Iglesia de la Concepción. Thus, from 11:00 p.m., Teatro Guimerá will be the last stop on Line 1 in Santa Cruz, with the Fundación and Intercambiador stops rendered out of service.

Regarding Line 2, the service intervals for Tuesday the 31st will be set at 12, 15, and 20 minutes until service concludes at midnight (24:00 hours).

Trams on Line 1 will operate throughout the early hours of Wednesday, January 1, New Year’s Day. It is anticipated that by 9:40 a.m. that day, services will resume along the full length of the line. This will reinstigate the Fundación and Santa Cruz Interchange stops into service.

The service frequencies for this day will follow the customary holiday schedule, specifically set at 12, 15, and 30 minutes, depending on the time of day.

The company has emphasised that operations will be specifically affected by the strike action undertaken by the workers from Monday to Friday, during early mornings, midday, and nighttime.

During these intervals, Metrotenerife will sustain operation of lines 1 and 2 with the established minimum service level of 80%.
