Santa Cruz de Tenerife has been acknowledged as the Best Tourist Destination in the Comprehensive System for Tourist Quality in Destinations (SICTED). This declaration was made by the mayor of Tenerife’s capital, José Manuel Bermúdez, who highlighted that “among the fourteen candidates, our city has been selected as the prime destination, thereby establishing itself as a model for tourism quality at a national scale.”
Furthermore, Bermúdez reported that “in this edition of the 2025 Comprehensive Destination Quality System (SICTED) awards, Santa Cruz has also been distinguished as the second Best SICTED Destination Improvement Project, being the sole destination from the Canary Islands nominated in this category,” and he added that “thus, the capital of Tenerife will receive two accolades next January at the FITUR event, during which the awards ceremony will take place.”
In addition, the CEO of the Development Society, Carmen Pérez, noted that “since joining the initiative in 2020, Santa Cruz de Tenerife has amassed nine SICTED awards, reflecting an ongoing dedication to tourism excellence and the substantial work undertaken,” and she mentioned that “SICTED is an initiative backed by the Secretary of State for Tourism aimed at enhancing quality in tourist destinations, recognising annually the endeavour and commitment of destinations, public administrations, tourism services, and sector stakeholders across various categories.”
“In our initial year participating in the project, we earned the top award for the Best SICTED Manager, to which two years later we added the third prize for the Best SICTED Management Team,” Pérez emphasised, adding, “these accolades were also awarded in 2023 and 2024 for the Best SICTED Destination Improvement Project and the Best SICTED Business Improvement Plan, achieved consecutively during those two years.”
“Santa Cruz has been striving for several years to elevate tourism quality, and these efforts are being recognised with national accolades, which complements the notable surge in tourism that the municipality has witnessed,” Pérez stated, adding that “these honours underscore the Development Society’s commitment to enhancing the quality of the tourism offering for the capital of Tenerife.”
The SICTED awards ceremony is set to occur on January 23 during the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, where key figures in the tourism sector will convene in an atmosphere fostering excellence and collaboration. The 45th edition of FITUR will take place from January 22 to 26 in Madrid, uniting over 9,000 enterprises from 152 nations across 66,900 square meters of exhibition area. Santa Cruz will participate in FITUR alongside Tenerife Tourism and will be positioned at the Canary Islands stand.
