During the festive season, the Citizen Security department of the Puerto de la Cruz City Council has issued a crucial reminder to residents: thieves remain active, and the holidays can present an opportunity for vehicle break-ins.

Important measures to prevent incidents

The City Council underscores the significance of adopting basic safety precautions, particularly during this time of year. Some of the recommendations provided include:

  1. Keep items out of sight: Ensure personal belongings such as mobile phones, wallets, or bags are not visible. Any exposed item could attract the attention of potential thieves.
  2. Do not store valuables in the car: Electronic gadgets, jewellery, and other valuable items should not be left in the vehicle, even if concealed.
  3. Strategic use of the boot: If it is necessary to leave items in the vehicle, place them in the boot before reaching your parking spot and ensure they are well hidden.
  4. Be discreet when parking: Upon arrival at your destination, avoid opening the boot in front of others to prevent disclosing that you have valuables inside.
  5. Exercise caution while shopping: When visiting several shops and placing your purchases in the boot, try not to do so repeatedly, as this may alert opportunistic individuals.
  6. Secure the vehicle: Manually activate the locks, even at traffic lights, if there are valuable items inside the vehicle.

A reminder for peaceful enjoyment

The Portuense City Council stresses that safety begins with simple preventive actions. Remaining vigilant and adhering to these guidelines can significantly reduce the likelihood of incidents, allowing for a more enjoyable holiday season.

During these festive times, the City Council encourages residents to celebrate responsibly and safeguard their belongings, keeping in mind that prevention is the most effective strategy to ensure everyone’s safety.
