Yesterday, taxi drivers cancelled the demonstration originally set to take place on Tres de Mayo Avenue, adjacent to the Corte Inglés and MediaMark, which had been organised by the Elite employers’ association in response to the Santa Cruz City Council’s management.
The protest, planned for between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., was attributed to the fact that “the council has not addressed the issues the bike lane will create” for the bus, “as it will hinder taxis from being able to drop off passengers, according to a report by the Local Police, which the municipal council has not clarified.”
Furthermore, concerns regarding La Candelaria Hospital, in addition to the alteration of the El Pilar street bus stop—removed due to the cycle lane works and relocated to a new position—presented other challenges that warranted this day of protest. The group urged the Santacrucero City Council to implement measures allowing taxis to access the hospital entrance directly, thereby improving service for users and reducing wait times.
