At just five years of age, Nora from the Canary Islands displays a natural talent for ice skating. “This is the first time I’ve tried it,” she exclaims as she hurries across the frozen rink with all her might. Her mother, Elena, does her utmost to supervise, finding it difficult to maintain her own balance. “I haven’t a clue how to skate,” she chuckles while gripping the safety barrier. Nora returns gleefully from her small escapade and regards her mother with a charming smile. With a slight wobble, she questions, “Am I really fast?” before setting off once more, disappearing amongst a throng of children sporting helmets and skating blades. This marks the second occasion that Nora has had the pleasure of experiencing the PIT, which has swiftly become a cherished tradition for her. It is the same event that began 33 years ago, embraced by many Canarians who now, like Elena, bring their children to the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Fairgrounds to share in the enchanting spirit of the PIT.
