Former Tenerife CEOE President José Fernando Rodríguez de Azero Passes Away

José Fernando Rodríguez de Azero y del Hoyo, the former president of CEOE of Tenerife, passed away on Thursday at the age of 82.

Through its social media channels, CEOE of Tenerife has emphasised that under José Fernando Rodríguez de Azero’s leadership, the organisation significantly transformed the business landscape of the Canary Islands.

He took on responsibilities “with a resolve that extended beyond professional limits,” and the CEOE of Tenerife designated him as honorary president, a title “that not only acknowledges his achievements but also the esteem and affection he earned through his exemplary conduct.”

José Fernando Rodríguez de Azero was first elected president of CEOE Tenerife in 1988, serving until 2010 when he stepped down at his own request. During his tenure, the unification of the Tenerife business community took place in 1990, as noted by the CEOE.

He was a member of the executive committee of the National CEOE from 1997 to 2010. Appointed by its president, José María Cuevas Salvador, he served as an advisor to the economic and social committee of the European Union from 1992 to 1997, alongside six other Spanish entrepreneurs.

In 2003, he was honoured as an honorary member of the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country of Tenerife.

As CEOE of Tenerife’s president, he participated in the Advisory Council of the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and held a directorship at Unelco-Endesa.

Since 2010, he worked as president of the Canary Islands Accident Mutual Fund (MAC) until 2016.

Antonio Garamendi, the president of CEOE, has expressed his sorrow over the passing, as have the Canary Islands Accident Mutual Fund (MAC), the president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, the Círculo de Empresarios del Sur de Tenerife, and the Club Deportivo Tenerife, among others.
