Ciudad Sostenible has commissioned the development of a project aimed at renovating, upgrading, and enhancing all the public schools within the municipality, for which it has allocated 500,000 euros from the General Directorate of Educational Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands. Some of these projects will commence immediately, while others are scheduled to start in 2025. These initiatives respond to the needs expressed by the educational community due to the deteriorating condition of certain schools.
The redevelopment will take place at the schools of Tomás Iriarte, San Antonio, César Manrique, Juan Cruz Ruiz, and Punta Brava, involving improvements to both the buildings and shared spaces like playgrounds and sports fields.
At CEIP Tomás Iriarte, the degraded surface of the new playground will be repaired; a manhole will be installed to prevent the accumulation of rainwater in the fields; the ineffective blinds in classrooms will be removed to eliminate hazards during storms; and the façade will receive a fresh coat of paint, encompassing both the exterior and interior of the courts.
For CEIP San Antonio, the entrance bridge from 8 de Marzo Avenue will be strengthened; the decorative concrete eave showing signs of rust and falling debris will be repaired; the south courtyard will undergo resurfacing; the rainwater drainage system will be replaced; the centre’s fencing will be updated; the blinds will be inspected and replaced; and renovations will be made to the toilets in the Children’s playground.
At CEIP César Manrique, asbestos will be removed from the roofing, electrical capacity will be enhanced, shade will be added to the patio, and maintenance and painting tasks will be conducted; classroom blinds will be replaced, fields will be resurfaced and painted, the caretaker’s accommodation will be adapted for educational purposes, the food access ramp will be improved, and an assessment for alarm installation will be undertaken.
For CEIP Juan Cruz Ruiz, improvements will be made to the entrance, asbestos will be removed from the roof, dampness issues in the walls of the patio and Children’s hallway will be addressed, repairs will be made to the crowning beam, and the height of the wall adjacent to the health centre will be increased; blinds will be replaced and repairs will be made, the caretaker’s accommodation will be converted into a classroom, the court’s pavement will be partially renewed, and the façade will be painted.
The CEIP Punta Brava will see enhancements to the entrance wall and the roof of the solar panels; the wall adjoining Loro Parque will be repaired, alongside renewing the fences atop it; the patio roof will also undergo repairs and the structure will be painted; fields will be resurfaced and painted, classroom blinds will be replaced, the exterior façades will be maintained, and a sign or mural will be positioned on the school garden wall, readily visible from the street.
