SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 17 December (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (Fimucité) revealed on Tuesday the performance of ‘Gladiator Live’, featuring the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and the Tenerife Film Choir. They will deliver the complete score by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard live while showcasing Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winning film on the big screen, in celebration of the festival’s twenty-fifth anniversary.
The Tenerife Auditorium will host two renditions of this ‘live-to-picture’ blockbuster on 11 and 12 July 2025, as a highlight of the festival’s nineteenth edition, which is set to commence on 7 June with a new concert by Pop Culture Band—marking the first outdoor performance, backed by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council.
The presentation featured the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila; the vice president and tourism advisor, Lope Afonso; and the festival director, Diego Navarro. They were joined by the Minister of Culture and Museums of Tenerife, José Carlos Acha, and the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, Dimple Melwani, among others.
Rosa Dávila emphasised that Fimucité is “a significant event that is already well-established, acting as a cultural and musical reference that transcends” the island’s borders.
“I want to acknowledge the immense organisational effort behind this festival, firmly establishing its nineteenth edition for 2025—a thrilling cultural commitment,” she remarked.
Lope Afonso noted that “this event offers an exceptional sensory and visual experience, showcasing the quality that yields positive effects for Tenerife.”
He further remarked that “the fusion of culture and tourism promotion is yielding remarkable results, advancing the repositioning of the tourist destination through the development of major high-quality events.”
“We are very pleased to renew this collaboration, and thus, Tenerife Tourism will continue participating in promoting the island’s benefits through commendable culture, which also fosters connections,” he expressed.
Diego Navarro stated that his team is “delighted to launch” an edition of the festival that “promises to be historic.” “We anticipate that the audience will respond enthusiastically by filling all our performance venues,” he added.
Navarro underscored that ‘Gladiator’, directed by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Alien, The Eighth Passenger, Thelma & Louise), is one of the most acclaimed films in cinema history and won five Oscars in 2000, including Best Picture and the Golden Globe for Best Original Score by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard.
The programme will commence with the inaugural open-air concert by the Pop Culture Band, the festival’s resident pop rock ensemble since 2014, conducted by Gonzalo de Araoz. Additionally, there will be a concert on Thursday, 3 July, at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna, featuring a musical journey through Italy in cinema, showcasing compositions from renowned Italian composers and iconic productions that will transport the audience to pivotal historical moments.
PARALLEL ACTIVITIES
In the latter half of June, the traditional summer cinema will take place, a family-oriented cultural initiative, with the collaboration of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council and the Centro-Ifara District, featuring open-air screenings with free admission until capacity is reached.
This year, the film selection will consist of several titles connected to the festival’s ‘leitmotif’: Italy and its cultural heritage and historical significance.
Furthermore, Fimucité will host prominent professional guests from the audiovisual music industry, who will also engage in a new edition of the Fimucité Film Scoring Academy.
Open to the general public, the schedule of masterclasses and panel discussions that will occur in July will be announced shortly. Attendance is free and can be validated for an optional academic credit.
