Winds Knock Out Power for Over 9,000 Residents in Tenerife

In total, 9,574 individuals have been impacted in Tenerife due to power outages resulting from the maximum alert for winds issued on the island, as reported on Monday by sources from the Island Council. The incidents have been noted in the municipalities of Los Realejos (4,877 subscribers), Guía de Isora (2,531 subscribers), Santa Úrsula (1,100 subscribers) and La Victoria de Acentejo (1,066 subscribers).

Additionally, in response to this weather situation, two stubble fires occurred in La Orotava and La Victoria, where firefighters, volunteers from Los Realejos, Forestry Brigades from the Cabildo (Brifor), and Civil Protection teams were involved.

With regards to incidents on roadways and access points throughout the island, notable challenges included obstructions on roads due to fallen trees, branches, walls, and signage, vehicles displaced by the wind, and residents isolated due to landslides on agricultural pathways.

By region, areas that have experienced wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h include Anaga (Las Carboneras area), El Sauzal, La Victoria, and Santa Úrsula. Wind gusts of between 70 and 100 km/h have been recorded in the La Orotava valley, generally above 90 km/h. In Punta del Hidalgo and two locations in the southern region of Tenerife (Tijoco and Tamaimo), wind gusts have approximately reached 80 km/h.

The emergency operational room on the island has received a total of 1,634 calls, while the Tenerife Fire Department’s interventions have increased to 84.
