SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE December 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife, through the Youth and Training department, is launching a new edition of the ‘Merkarte Navidad’ Young Art Market, a venture that will commence next Wednesday at the Official College of Architects of Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro.
The Minister for Youth and Training, Serafín Mesa, states in a note that “Merkarte serves two significant purposes: providing high-quality creations at affordable prices and connecting the island’s youthful artists with the more commercial aspects of art to assist in professionalising their careers.”
Over the past two decades, more than 450 young residents of Tenerife have participated in ‘Merkarte’, which has established itself as an annual event during the festive season, encouraging the motto ‘Give art at Christmas’,” he adds.
The exhibition will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will run throughout the festive campaign, including January 5, remaining closed only on December 25, January 1, and January 6.
Under the theme ‘Give young talent’, ‘Merkarte’ features 40 artists showcasing works in various forms such as painting, graphic design, illustration, and sculpture, providing a distinct opportunity to discover and acquire unique and innovative art.
A new feature this year is that visitors to the exhibition will receive a one-hour discount voucher for the Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey car park, managed by Sinpromi, which must be validated at the counter with a discount voucher, while stocks last.
Furthermore, this commemorative edition emphasises the significance of women in art: 29 of the 40 participating artists are women, highlighting the event’s commitment to diversity and equity within the artistic sector.
All original pieces available for purchase at ‘Merkarte’ come with a certificate of authenticity, ensuring that the artworks are genuine.
Moreover, each certificate details the title of the artwork and the signature of the artist, the technique used, and if they are original copies, the series and number.
In 2004, the Cabildo of Tenerife introduced the educational, artistic, and social programme ‘Merkarte’ with the objective of showcasing, promoting, and supporting young creatives on the island, thereby encouraging their professional development and incorporation into the job market.
As such, it provides a range of training, exhibition, and socio-labour support activities throughout the year, reaffirming its commitment to youth and local talent in collaboration with the tourism sector and other private entities.
