SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 15 December (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife has halted all sporting events scheduled at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium due to the current maximum alert and wind warnings affecting the Island, with gusts anticipated to reach up to 120 km/hour.
This has been disclosed by the insular Corporation, which further indicates that the president, Rosa Dávila, has communicated this situation to the president of the Tenerife Sports Club, Paulino Rivero, as the blue and white team was set to compete at 8:00 p.m. against Deportivo de La Coruna.
“The Tenerife Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) is now activated, on alert due to the severe winds triggered by the storm Dorothea, which are being particularly felt on the northern and western slopes of the island. Based on the AEMET forecasts indicating potential intensification of the winds, we opted to suspend outdoor activities at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López to ensure the safety of individuals,” stated the president.
“Forecasts suggest hurricane-force gusts could reach 120 km/h, and our priority must be the safety of the public.”
This decision is in line with measures implemented this Saturday following the activation of the Island Emergency Plan (PEIN), which includes the closure of recreational and camping areas, as well as the prohibition of travel on forest trails and tracks.
Consequently, cross-country movement on any paths, tracks, or routes within wooded forest regions (such as Anaga and Teno Rural Parks) is temporarily forbidden, apart from necessary management activities or circumstances involving force majeure.
Additionally, pedestrian access to the trails of Teide National Park and the Barranco de Masca has been suspended.
