In a bid to invigorate the commercial sector and encourage local spending, the Department of Commerce at the Puerto de la Cruz City Council is launching today Ando por el Puerto, a scheme designed to transform the Open Commercial Zone (ZCA) into a vibrant and appealing area for both residents and visitors. The event will be hosted in Ángel Acosta Martín square, Plaza del Charco, and the Plaza de la Iglesia Peña de Francia.
Since its inception in 2019, Ando por el Puerto has acted as a platform to showcase local businesses and enhance sales throughout the Christmas period. This year, recreational and festive pursuits will be particularly geared towards families to maximise the promotional and commercial benefits during this vital season.
The agenda features thematic zones, including the Playing Zone for children’s games and inflatables; Fabricando Zone, offering Christmas workshops for adults; and Acting Zone, showcasing children’s musicals and theatre, alongside areas for non-profit organisations and emerging local talents. Furthermore, commercial parades will weave through the main streets of the old town, complete with musical elements and festive characters.
The objective is to enliven the Open Commercial Zone by crafting a celebratory atmosphere that encourages people to explore and shop at local establishments. It also aims to support local commerce by improving visibility and sales through a Christmas campaign. Additionally, there is an emphasis on fostering community interaction by providing activities that engage various demographics, as well as boosting business volume by harnessing the heightened demand during this timeframe.
The detailed itinerary comprises creative workshops for children and adults, live performances, and areas dedicated to social collaboration. The hope is that this event will also strengthen the community bonds within Puerto de la Cruz.
To implement this ambitious endeavour, funding was sought to support commercial revitalisation efforts in Tenerife’s residential urban centres. The allocated funds were utilised to cover the costs associated with rental and installation of stalls, sound and lighting equipment, marketing, and materials required for the activities.
With Ando por el Puerto, “we reaffirm our commitment to commerce and strive to create a memorable experience for visitors,” stated Diego Moreno, Councilor for Commerce. “This presents an ideal opportunity for family enjoyment while we support our entrepreneurs,” added the local mayor.
