Las Mercedes School Launches Inspiring Blood Donation Drive in La Laguna

The CEIP Las Mercedes in La Laguna has initiated a blood donation campaign. Every December, the 5th grade Primary classes at CEIP have coordinated this initiative, which is now in its 9th iteration and has become an integral part of the school’s identity.

“Previous editions have been immensely successful, and on the designated day, the generosity of the CEIP Las Mercedes educational community shines brightly in a gesture as straightforward as it is significant: coming to the school to donate blood,” states the centre.

The centre believes that encouraging pupils to “embrace voluntary donation as a means of caring for others, fostering a sense of collective responsibility, and promoting community cohesion” is one of its goals.

In this vein, the current 5th grade Primary classes have once again arranged the IX Blood Donation Campaign: YOUR BLOOD, MY LIFE, which forms part of our project We learn to care and care, from equality.

The students from these classes, in collaboration with the CEIP Las Mercedes Educational Community, have already organised everything for this Friday, December 13, from 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As noted in a letter addressed to the families of the school: “Donating blood is important for all of us. There are many people who stand to receive a tremendous gift—the gift of life. And it can come from each one of you. A donation, which will only take a few minutes of your time, can save up to three lives. Moreover, with that simple act, you will set an excellent example of solidarity and compassion for all the boys and girls in our school.”

The Blood Donation Campaign is one of the numerous educational activities that these groups engage in as part of the project Health is in my hands, which they undertake throughout the first term of the academic year, focusing on integrating self-care and consideration for others into their everyday lives.

Specifically, regarding the organisation of this Blood Donation Day, several activities have already been completed: composing and distributing an invitation letter to families, designing and selecting the promotional poster, promoting the event within the school and the local community, scheduling donation slots, and preparing the school; on Friday, it will be the students who will oversee the Day, welcoming donors, explaining the process, providing them with refreshments, and capturing a photograph alongside the child who encouraged them to participate in this campaign.
