SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 13 December (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife has sanctioned its entry into the Canary Islands Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT-CAN) to enhance its cybersecurity measures.
The Minister for the Presidency, José Miguel Ruano, emphasises in a statement that “this is a pivotal move to fortify the Cabildo de Tenerife’s role as a leader in cybersecurity both locally and nationally, harnessing synergies and resources to efficiently safeguard the assets and digital services of the municipalities and the institution itself.”
With this incorporation, he states, “the Cabildo will bolster its security framework and aid in creating a collaborative cybersecurity environment across the Canary Islands.”
José Miguel Ruano articulates that participating in the CSIRT-CAN initiative provides numerous advantages for the Cabildo of Tenerife “such as broadening capabilities, enhancing prevention and response strategies, and optimising resources.”
In his perspective, “this will supplement our ongoing endeavours pertaining to cybersecurity.”
In addition, the insular director of Human Resources, Public Service and Digital Transformation, Juan Manuel Santana, expounds that “the objective is to collaborate, thereby improving abilities in areas like threat prevention and early detection.”
Furthermore, he added, “we will benefit from technical support and coordination in managing incidents as well as assistance for training initiatives and conducting audits.”
Moreover, there will be specialised resources equipped with high-capacity firewalls to enhance service centralisation and traffic probes to boost monitoring capabilities.
Juan Manuel Santana recalls that the Cabildo maintains a cybersecurity agreement with the National Cryptological Centre (CCN), which operates under the National Intelligence Centre (CNI), to encourage inter-administrative collaboration in this domain.
This accord encompasses various actions, such as the establishment and functioning of a Virtual Cybersecurity Operations Centre (vSOC), cybersecurity training and educational programs, and advanced tools for the surveillance, detection, and response to security incidents.
The agreement has permitted an enhancement in surveillance and threat detection capabilities within municipalities with fewer than 20,000 residents on the island and at the Cabildo itself.
The Canary Islands Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT-CAN) is a venture of the Government of the Canary Islands aimed at bolstering the cybersecurity of local entities in the archipelago.
This initiative aims to safeguard institutions and citizens from cyber threats, providing a variety of services.
Through CSIRT-CAN, participating entities gain access to both reactive and proactive services that enhance security measures and incident response, in line with regulations such as the National Security Scheme (ENS) and ISO 27001.
