SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13 December (EUROPA PRESS) –
The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government, based on forecasts from AEMET and other available data, and in accordance with the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks Associated with Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA), has declared a wind alert for the islands of Tenerife, La Gomera, and El Hierro.
This alert will take effect at midnight, while the islands of La Palma, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote remain on pre-alert status.
Initially, a moderate southerly and southeasterly wind is anticipated, with vigorous gusts along the coast and strong winds in the midlands, elevated regions, and peaks, with potential very strong gusts exceeding 80-90 km/h, and reaching up to 100 km/h in the northern and western slopes, as well as in the high altitudes and summits of the alert islands.
Moderate to strong easterly or southeasterly winds are also expected, with very strong gusts that could surpass 60-70 km/h on the northern and western slopes, particularly in the highlands and peaks of the islands under pre-alert conditions.
