The Cabildo, through its Historical Heritage department, announced yesterday that it has augmented the funds allocated for subsidies to individuals (including private citizens, businesses, and homeowner associations) by half a million euros. This initiative aims to assist in the restoration of properties possessing cultural significance. The recent increase will enable the processing of requests currently on the reserve list.
A total of 263 applications have been handled, representing a record high and an increase of over 25% compared to the previous year, as highlighted by the Council. Additionally, the financial resources dedicated by the Corporation to these subsidies have doubled from last year, with two million euros earmarked for this campaign, supplemented by an additional half a million to ensure the assistance reaches a broader range of citizens.
Isabel de Esteban, the insular director of Historical Heritage, acknowledged the overwhelmingly positive response to the subsidy call, which “marks the most significant effort made thus far by the Cabildo to support owners of culturally valuable properties in their preservation.” Moreover, she mentioned that the department has expedited all processes to facilitate subsidy payments in the upcoming months, “enabling interested parties to access funds for their projects within a maximum period of six months from submitting their request.”
This menu of subsidies is designed for both individuals and corporate entities, excluding the Catholic Church and Public Authorities, and aims to implement various interventions, including maintenance, restoration, consolidation, and upgrading or replacing supply and sanitation systems. Generally, 50% of the project costs are subsidised up to a maximum of 30,000 euros for each recipient, although this percentage may rise to 100% based on the financial situation of the beneficiary.
