Officers from the Local Police of Candelaria (Tenerife) assisted two abandoned children this Monday, who were found on public streets, one inside a vehicle and the other precariously perched on a wall, at risk of falling.
Multiple calls from local residents alerted the police, who arrived at the scene in Igueste de Candelaria, as detailed by the City Council.
The officers assessed the situation and confirmed the state of neglect of the minors, one of whom was unclothed, and were being accompanied by individuals who had raised the alarm.
Following a third call from a neighbour, the children’s mother was located; she was reportedly under the influence of narcotics and displayed “aggressive behaviour” toward the officers, according to the council.
In her attempt to flee, the woman became wedged between two walls, necessitating the intervention of medical personnel and firefighters for her removal, assessment, and subsequent transfer to a hospital.
The children were taken to a care facility, and reports of their alleged abandonment and vulnerability have been filed with the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office and the duty court of the judicial district of Güímar.
The Candelaria City Council expresses gratitude for the community’s cooperation that facilitated the intervention of the Local Police and emphasises the importance of notifying authorities about any situation that could jeopardise the safety or welfare of children.
