SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 8 December (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Infantry Regiments that form part of the XVI Canary Brigade held the customary military parade this Sunday at their barracks, in celebration of their Patroness, the Immaculate Conception.
General Ramón Armada, Chief of Staff of the Army’s Canary Islands Command, presided over the military occasion at the Hoya Fría Barracks in Tenerife, home to the historically significant Tenerife 49 Infantry Regiment.
The General Alemán Ramírez Base in Gran Canaria hosted the event for the 50th Canary Islands Infantry Regiment, chaired by General Ricardo Esteban, Chief of the XVI Canary Islands Brigade, while the Puerto del Rosario Barracks in Fuerteventura served as the venue for the 9th Soria Infantry Regiment, led by General Ignacio José Boudet, Head of the fifth General Sub-inspection of the Army in the Canary Islands.
The ceremonies followed a traditional sequence, which included paying tribute to the presiding authority, reviewing the troops, recounting the miracle of Empel, awarding decorations, delivering speeches by various colonels commanding the regiments, holding a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for Spain, singing the Infantry anthem, and reciting a Spirit of the Ideology and Commitment of the XVI Canary Brigade.
The parade of the participating units concluded the military event, which was particularly solemn, as a special tribute was paid to all those who lost their lives due to DANA.
Their memory was honoured with profound respect, reaffirming the collective commitment to unity and solidarity in challenging times, as highlighted by the Ministry of Defence in a statement.
These poignant and heartfelt events saw the attendance of various civil and military officials from the islands, also serving as a reunion between veteran infantrymen and former members of the Regiments with those who currently have the privilege and honour of serving in their ranks.
