An earthquake measuring 3.4 on the mbLg scale was recorded by the National Geographic Institute (IGN) on Sunday in the municipality of Puerto de la Cruz on the island of Tenerife.
This seismic event took place at 3:04 p.m., with the epicentre identified to the southeast, at coordinates 28.4040 latitude and -16.5350 longitude, occurring at a depth of 21 kilometres.
Despite the earthquake reaching a considerable magnitude, there have been no reports of personal or material casualties in the vicinity so far.
Initial assessments indicate the intensity of the earthquake was minor, and it is probable that some individuals at rest or within structures may have sensed it.
This earthquake adds to the growing number of seismic events recently recorded in the Canary Islands, an area that remains under ongoing seismic investigation and surveillance to enhance the understanding of the Archipelago’s geological dynamics.
