SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE December 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Acrux Maritime Rescue team accompanied a vessel carrying 60 migrants during the early hours of this Saturday, approximately nine kilometres (5 nautical miles) from El Hierro, as indicated by the official agency.
The escort operation was initiated following a radar signal detected by the Civil Guard, suggesting the presence of a potential cayuco at around 4:35 a.m., situated about nine kilometres from the La Restinga dock in El Pinar.
Subsequently, the Maritime Rescue Centre in Tenerife dispatched the Acrux rescue crew, which successfully located and escorted the boat to the port of La Restinga, where 60 individuals of sub-Saharan descent disembarked, comprising three women and two minors.
Additionally, at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Saturday, the security personnel at La Restinga port reported spotting a second canoe nearby, although it did not actually enter the port.
In response, the Maritime Rescue Centre mobilised the Adhara rescuer and the Mike 02 vessel from the Tenerife Red Cross, which located the canoe and guided it safely to the port, although the precise number of individuals onboard this second vessel remains unknown.
