Following the recent surge of thefts affecting various businesses in the Santacrucero area of Salamanca, which culminated in the apprehension of two individuals, local residents and entrepreneurs can breathe a bit easier, albeit not entirely, as they continue to assert that the presence of the Local Police is “limited and they only come to issue fines for parking for a few moments in the second row on the street. Meanwhile, the National Police occasionally appears with dogs but this is insufficient,” as stated by the La Arboleda neighbourhood association.
Compounding this situation are the “drug users” who have taken over the ground level of the Zurita bridge and the Hermanos Ríos passage for the sale and use of drugs. “We have requested that the town hall address this area conclusively and enhance the lighting, in order to eliminate this hotspot of criminal activity and, additionally, prevent them from falling into the ravine,” they emphasised.
