The Cabildo of Tenerife will allocate 500,000 euros to the Santa Cruz City Council to enable the Urban Planning Management to initiate the expropriation of the land currently occupied by the incomplete Añaza hotel. This unfinished structure requires this preliminary step before its eventual demolition can take place.
The Councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife (PP), announced yesterday in remarks made to the Ser channel that the land where the abandoned infrastructure resides must first be expropriated prior to its demolition. This property has been neglected for 50 years, and its owners have yet to be identified.
Moreover, the councillor stated that “simultaneously, the City Council is in discussions with the Government of the Canary Islands to secure the necessary funding for the demolition project. The operations will require an investment of 2.5 million euros.”
Once the building is removed, the intended use of this area is to “transform it into a recreational space for the inhabitants of Añaza and Acorán,” as confirmed by Tarife.
The construction of this long-abandoned building commenced in 1973 with plans to convert it into a hotel, but work came to a halt two years later at the hands of its owners.
